  • Conducting strategic business reviews and analysis, options analysis, impact evaluations and writing of new business strategies
  • Change management processes and restructuring
  • Governance structures and composition
  • Leadership and management support
  • Financial analysis and improving financial systems and processes
  • Embedding EDI principles into business plans
  • Carrying out research and data collection
  • Running focus groups and facilitating workshops

Consulting roles I have undertaken include 10 months as Strategy Director/Interim CEO of a national NPO charity, writing a business development strategy for a Viennese orchestra, as well as numerous research and strategy projects for major clients for arts consultancy organisation Counterculture.

I am also a regular lecturer at Falmouth University delivering research methods masterclasses to all cohorts and to their Music Business Masters program, creating and delivering seminars on a range of subjects from Intellectual Property and Royalty Flows to Contracts and Negotiation Skills.

Business management testimonials….

Vick Bain is smart, calm, clear and driven by integrity.”  Jane Dyball, Chair of Attitude is Everything.

For many years, Vick has been my “go-to” external colleague in the music industry. She was a former mentor to our first Business & Operations Manager & a role model for me; a skilled female, senior leader working in a challenging industry. She provided me with moral support & encouragement as a new CEO in a newly-created small arts organisation, who was literally learning on the job.  When I had to take a prolonged leave of sickness absence from my former CEO role, I knew that Vick was the person who could support my organisation through a critical period that included a global pandemic. Vick was able to keep the organisation stable, as well as supporting it to pivot its activities; including the introduction of new business income streams by bringing in new contacts because of her extensive knowledge & respected reputation in the music industry. She also undertook a major review of the organisation that included reviewing our operations, financial support, marketing & sector influence. She prepared a new Business Strategy Plan for the Board & Senior Management Team which included outlining a Delivery Plan for short-term, medium-term and long-term changes, based upon her findings. She then took us through a period of Change Management which enabled us to be resilient & agile for the next 5 – 10 years.

We’ve greatly benefited from Vick’s expertise in business strategy & her approach to developing equity, diversity & inclusion practices that make cultural change in the workplace possible. We also benefited from her extensive knowledge of the industry; she keeps abreast of current topics, enabling her to understand how an organisation can influence public affairs & place themselves at the centre of effecting societal change.  I’d have no hesitation in recommending Vick. She is a talented colleague with vision & practical sense, but also her positivity is infectious.” Suzanne Bull MBE, Founder, Attitude is Everything.

Vick was a remarkable CEO and through the years displayed great leadership skills and resilience with an ability to identify and solve the problems of a professionalising membership organisation.  Vick was instrumental in stabilising the finances of the business, growing membership and modernising BASCA alongside her experience in public affairs campaigning and raising the profile of the organisation.  She established an innovative partnership network with universities across the UK and has been a high-profile advocate for increased inclusivity and diversity within the music industry.  Vick built and strengthened relationships with music industry umbrella organisations including UK Music and the British Copyright Council and helped launch The Council of Music Makers.  She was also instrumental in revitalising the BASCA Trust from dormancy bringing in new trustees, partnerships and creating vital bursaries to many young songwriters and composers. Vick has a notable reputation in the music industry and has been awarded with numerous honours demonstrating her effectiveness.  I can recommend Vick for a leadership role in any company.” Crispin Hunt, Former Chair of BASCA.
